Tax software updates include changes to forms that weren't finalized by the IRS at the time of software shipment or for new years. The IRS and your state taxing authority change forms throughout the tax season so updates are often necessary.

Downloading & Installing Updates You can update TaxCut from within your program or by downloading an update from the TaxCut links above.

To update your TaxCut issue from within the program:

1. Start TaxCut.

2. Click the Tools menu, then select Update TaxCut.

3. Click Update if there is one available.

4. Follow the on-screen directions to complete your software update.
   Note: When you update your state program, the federal program may be automatically updated at the same time.

How to download an update, Windows users:

For a federal software update:

1. locate the section for Windows Users Under the Federal section, then click Download the most recent federal update.

2. In the drop-down list select the product version you have and click Download Update.

For a state update:

1. Select TaxCut State, then click View Availability to check for updates.

2. Click Get Windows Update If an update is available.

3. In the drop-down list, select the appropriate state program you have and click Download Update.

4. Save the update file to your desktop.

5. Make sure TaxCut is close and double-click the .exe file from your desktop. If you can't find the update file because it was saved to a different location, you may have to perform a search to find the file.

6. Complete the installation by following the instructions displayed by the update program.

How to download an update Macintosh users:

For a federal update:

1. Locate the section For Macintosh under the Federal section and click download the most recent federal update.

2. In the drop-down list, select the product version you have and click Download Update.

For a state update:

1. Open the TaxCut State section and click View Availability to check if there's an update.

2. Click Get Macintosh Update if an update is available.

3. In the drop-down list, select the appropriate state program, and click Download Update.

4. Save the update file to your desktop.

5. Make sure TaxCut is closed then Double-click the .dmg update file on your desktop, or from wherever you saved it to.
